I have gotten sucked into a vortex of about me, what about me, what does the me want, is there a new me, tell me about me, how did this me come about?? blah blah
What exactly does this me do in service of others? Like.. what rocks my socks and calls my loving kindess to action?
Darfur! A few years ago I made a promise to the women of Darfur that I would do everything in my power to help them from afar. They remain in my tonglen practice, my dedication of merit and I contribute time, money, action and my voice. To get on board, which you must, and put a stop to the horror: SaveDarfur.org

My heart, money, time and energy also goes to the education of humans in relationship to the aid/rescue/ rehabilitation of animals. Whether its posting flyers on microchipping, fostering pets, volunteering at pet adoptions, promoting spay/neuter, petitioning for new evacuation laws (after Katrina's disaster), etc.
Another favorite endeavor of mine is to donate to Heifer International. My daughters and I over the years have donated (and collected donations) to buy bees, ducks, bunnies, and goats. Hopefully this year we will get around to our self-initiated fundraiser and collect money to buy an Ark.

Over the past 7 years I have returned to a more active political involvement, mostly out of necessity. I get state and national political digests and am definitely one of those who writes to my politicians. From my earlier days, I still participate in protecting the rights of women. (And thank you Bill Mahr, Jon Stewart et al!)
Over the years I also follow my inclinations and engage in a few organizations for a year or two. These have included Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Tibet Fund (adopting the education of 2 youngsters), MC Food Bank, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, First Book Literacy.

My point in sharing this is that there are opportunities around us all the time which allow us to, quite easily, contribute and be the change. Whether its time on the cushion practicing Tonglen, donating some dollars at the grocery store checkout, signing some online petitions…. there is work to be done and making a difference starts with one thing: ACTION, one action.

And for fun, Zaadzters, because I know how creative you are…. you can go to Join Red and leave your impression on their video wall ;-)
